Hope Hoffman / Jeff Trippe :

cd photo / design by Willie McElroy

Present Scots-Irish and Americana instrumental music and songs, with a modern approach and fluid, detailed interpretations.

Their repertoire includes jigs, dance tunes, old songs, new songs, and Hope Hoffman's original compositions.

Gracefully improvised phrasing and subtle musicianship are hallmarks of this duo.

Hoffman's fiddling brings a precise and imaginative style to their instrumental melodies, and a sensitive and creative accompaniment to vocal pieces.

Trippe blends his lovely vocals with Hoffman's harmonies to create a lush emotional texture, and his rhythm and melodic lines on guitar and octave mandolin mesh magically with the fiddle's resonance and sense of adventure.

Hoffman and Trippe's CD showcases their elegant, spontaneous settings of popular Irish tunes, plus a couple of Hoffman's compositions. [purchase CD online]

"Both Hoffman and Trippe are dazzling. 'Ships are Sailing'… is a sublime melding of instruments, and its spirit is both melancholy and hopeful … 'Longview'… is captivatingly playful. The medley of 'Julia Delaney/Star of Munster/The Merry Bastard' combines two traditionals with a Hoffman original ("The Merry Bastard"), and it's one of my favorites as fiddle and guitar dance their way through the arrangements …'Star of the County Down/Rights of Man' leads you across the water and through the green fields of Ireland, and it takes its time getting there to afford the listener time to take it all in."
